Simonsen Signs On to STEM Grant Program to Support Millville Students

Millville, NJ – Assemblyman Erik Simonsen has signed on to Assembly Bill A4051, legislation establishing the “STEM Curriculum Grant Program” to expand hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math education for at-risk middle school students, including those in Millville.

The bill creates a grant program within the Department of Education to promote project-based STEM learning for students in grades six through eight and appropriates $2.25 million to fund the initiative.

“This is about giving Millville students the tools they need to succeed,” Assemblyman Simonsen said. “By investing in strong STEM programs, we are strengthening opportunities for our community’s future.”

Participating districts must provide hands-on, real-world STEM coursework and include an accelerated option allowing students who are behind grade level to complete two grades in one year.

“I recently had the opportunity to tour Millville’s Star Academy firsthand, and what I saw was truly impressive. The program is delivering real results - students are actively engaged in STEM learning, gaining hands-on experience in science and technology, and building skills that will carry them into high school and beyond,” Simonsen added.

"Just as importantly, the academy has created a structured, supportive environment where disciplinary issues have declined and students are thriving both academically and personally. It’s proof that when we invest in innovative education, our students rise to the challenge.”
