Our Kids Lose While Newark Wastes

During the years of S-2 cuts, as a school administrator at Lower Cape May Regional, we had to make tough decisions to balance fiscal responsibility with providing our students a quality education.

We were told to trim the budget. Apparently Newark heard “trim the waistline.”

A state audit found Newark Public Schools spent $566,000 on an employee fitness center used by an average of just seven employees a day.

That matters because these are taxpayer dollars. While districts across New Jersey have been asked to do more with less, accountability has to apply equally.

As a member of the Governor’s new education steering committee working on school funding, I will 100 percent stand up for responsible spending, a fair funding formula, and making sure education dollars are focused where they belong: our students and classrooms.

$566,000 is just the beginning. Read what the audit uncovered.
