Simonsen and McClellan Call on Residents to Say No to Governor Murphy’s “Fun Tax”

Cape May Court House, NJ — Assemblymen Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan are urging New Jersey families to take a stand against Governor Phil Murphy’s newly proposed “fun tax,” included in the state’s latest budget. The lawmakers are calling on residents to reject this tax and join a growing volunteer effort to protect affordable family experiences across the state.

“This tax is not about luxury,” said Assemblyman Simonsen. “It is about punishing working families who save all year just to watch their kids play mini golf or ride go-karts on a single summer vacation.”

Governor Murphy’s administration has introduced new taxes on recreation activities that many families rely on for affordable entertainment. These changes come at a time when the state budget has already grown by 67 percent in just eight years.

Assemblyman McClellan added, “Instead of supporting families who are already struggling with inflation and rising costs, Trenton is now taxing their joy. This is government overreach, and it must be stopped.”

The Assemblymen are encouraging residents to join their grassroots movement to fight back.
